Language Provision:

The Department of Modern Languages offers the following languages: French, German, Mandarin and Spanish.

We teach French, German and Spanish from Key Stage 3 to A level.  Mandarin is taught in Year 8 by our resident Chinese teacher, as part of the Confucius Hub project.  A level pupils also have the opportunity to study Mandarin as part of their timetable in Senior School.

Students of French, German and Spanish may be entered for GCSE, AS level and A2 level examinations.

Duration of Study:

  • All students study French in Year 8
  • All students then study German and Spanish during Years 9 and 10
  • At the end of Year 10, they can decide to take one, two or three languages for GCSE.
  • At the end of Year 12, they can opt to take one, two or three languages for A-Level.

Language Trips:

We believe passionately in the benefit of exposing pupils to real foreign language.

Therefore, we run educational or exchange trips to France, Germany and Spain.

Students who take part in the exchange trips stay with host families and are expected to host their exchange partner.
