3rd XV

2012 - 2013

The 3rd XV had another enjoyable year. The squad was ably led by Gareth Anderson as Captain and Conor Adair as Pack Leader. The friendlies this season went for us and against us with good wins against Shimna Integrated College and Royal School Armagh and losses against RBAI, MCB and Campbell. The boys’ strongest performances were against Campbell and Royal School Armagh. We had a tough draw in the 3rd XV Cup against Bangor Grammar School in the first round. The boys played very well under the guidance of Mr Magill and beat Bangor to go through to the second round. In this we were drawn against Coleraine Academical Institution. After a long coach journey we were slow to start against a fairly strong team and therefore conceded points in the first half. On a couple of occasions we were just caught sleeping. We rallied in the second half and closed the gap but were unable to make up for the damage in the first half.

The boys, on the whole, have been developing well with Dylan Lennox showing promise at full back and Daniel Clarke showing some strong running lines at inside centre. Matthew Headley is a good prospect on the wing as is Daryl Hand who can play in the Back Row or wing. Arek Madej demonstrated good strength and improving technique in the front row with Jordan McDowell being a good prospect in hooker. Andrew Carville demonstrated great lineout technique and good pace with the ball while Kirk Maguire, Andrew Johnston and Beki Mbondiya all worked well in the back row.
