Girls' Rugby

2011 - 2012

The final pitted Grosvenor against Enniskillen Collegiate, winners of the competition over the previous three years, during which time they had defeated Grosvenor in the final on two occasions.  Despite this, Grosvenor’s team entered the match buoyed by victories at two pre-qualifying tournaments which saw them take an unbeaten run into the contest.

The game itself was played at a fast pace throughout with favourites Enniskillen eager to assert their authority early on.  Despite the opposition’s experience, pace and skill, however, Grosvenor performed heroically to limit their attacking threat and display much offensive potency of their own. At the conclusion of a nail biting contest, Grosvenor’s relentless, energetic effort saw them edge the holders by 8 tries to 7 to deny them a quartet of titles.

Each member of Grosvenor’s squad performed with determination and skill throughout the match with three tries coming from the outstanding Chloe Lopez-Colclough, two from Catherine Johnston , and one each from Erin Caughey and Claire Todd. In addition, Karen O’Hare, Chloe McMaster, Lisa Black and Beth Dawson impressed with their handling and passing while notable defensive performances were delivered by Alison Millar and Sarah Foster.

Well done to all of the Grosvenor girls, as well as their coaches Mrs Ruth Gray, Mr Philip Stoops, Mr John Murray and Mr Johnnie Neary (the latter two both from Malone Rugby Club) who contributed to the team’s superb victory and amazing achievement.
