A Level German Film Day

Earlier in the term four members of the school’s Upper Sixth and twelve Lower Sixth pupils travelled to the Queen’s Film Theatre at Q.U.B. to attend a German Film Day for pupils studying A-Level German. The event is held each year and affords pupils the opportunity to meet with other students from different schools from across he province to watch German films outside of the exam specification.

This year's film was a screening of ‘Westwind’ (click here for trailer in German) which is based on a true story; set in Hungary in 1988, against the backdrop of a divided Europe, the film is a young love story depicting the issues faced when East Germany met West Germany following the collapse of the Berlin Wall. Those in attendance were also joined by Sabine Uibel, from the Goethe Institut, who introduced the film and provided a workshop with various film-based activities for the pupils.

All present thoroughly enjoyed the film and agreed it was a worthwhile experience. Many thanks to Q.F.T. for hosting such a worthwhile event, as well as German teacher Miss Andrea Elwood, without whose attendance on the trip the School’s pupils would not have been able to attend.
