Barcelona Trip 2018

On Monday 15th October forty of Grosvenor’s most enthusiastic Spanish linguists, accompanied by four dedicated members of staff, gathered at Aldergrove Airport in the early hours of the morning as they embarked upon their much-anticipated five day excursion to the megacity of Barcelona.

Over five incredibly busy and hugely enjoyable days the visiting GGS party enjoyed a coach ride to Barcelona Port, followed by a further boat trip around it on Monday 15th; a spectacular cable car ride up to the monastery at Monsterrat, as well as a trip to the aquarium in the afternoon, on Tuesday 16th; a coach tour of the city - which took in such famous landmarks as the 1992 Olympic Stadium and the lookout on Montjuic, as well as the amazing architecture of artists such as Gaudi and Miró, on Wednesday 17th; and the undoubted highlight of the week – a day-long excursion to Port Aventura Theme Park on Thursday 18th, as pupils braved the biggest and fastest rides and nearly everyone enjoyed the rapids, log flume and boat splash.

The final day of the trip, meanwhile, saw the pupils make an early start, departing their hotel promptly following a 7.30am breakfast to take in the awe-inspiring splendour of F.C. Barcelona’s famous Camp Nou stadium, before heading to the airport for their return flight which took them to Dublin and then, by coach, back to Belfast.

Many thanks to Grosvenor’s Head of Spanish Mrs Amanda Salt whose diligent organisation helped to ensure the smooth running of the trip, as well as fellow teachers Mrs Conn, Mr Magill and Mrs Peel, accompanied by former pupil Leo Bell, whose presence on the trip was also much appreciated.

We look forward to hearing more of the Spanish department’s movements and activities over the coming academic year.

Forty excited Grosvenor linguists look forward to their impending tour of F.C. Barcelona's Camp Nou on the final morning of their trip.
