‘BBC Radio Ulster School Choir if the Year Competition’ Success

Congratulations to Grosvenor’s esteemed Chamber Choir which secured victory in the province-wide final of the highly prestigious ‘BBC Radio Ulster School Choir of the Year Competition’, in association with the Ulster Youth Choir, held in the Ulster Hall at the end of April.

Grosvenor’s participation in the final came following victory in the recorded Country Antrim (including Belfast) heat of the contest earlier in the year, where they defeated four other competing schools, and saw them take on six other top quality choirs from Coleraine High School, Ballyclare High School, Bloomfield Collegiate, St. Colman’s College, Newry and Sullivan Upper respectively.

Grosvenor’s talented choristers, conducted by Head of Music Miss Rosemary Foster and accompanied by fellow Music teacher Mr Jonathan Arnold, performed ‘I Can Tell the World’ and “Nearer My God to Thee’ before defeating Sullivan Upper in the final ‘head-to-head’ set of performances to achieve overall victory.

Presented by John Toal and Kerry McLean, the event initially featured over 64 competing schools, in both the Junior and Senior categories, who battled it out across six regional heats to secure a place in the final. The awards were made by guest judge Yvie Burnett, a mezzo soprano, well known for her work as a vocal coach with The Voice.

Sincerest congratulations to Miss Foster, Mr Arnold and all of the pupils who contributed to Grosvenor’s fantastic success. Having achieved the runners-up position in the nationwide ‘BBC School Choir of the Year Competition’ 2013 this latest victory marks yet another outstanding achievement for the school’s talented choristers and we look forward to seeing them in performance again soon.
