BBC Songs of Praise UK Choir Competition 2013

The morning of Wednesday 21st November saw Grosvenor welcome William Thompson from EMS Audio to the School to record its Chamber Choir’s entry for the BBC Songs of Praise UK Choir Competition 2013.

The recording, which took place in the William Moles Hall, saw the Choir perform a rendition of ‘Be Thou My Vision’ as its traditional piece, specially arranged by Philip Stopford and featuring current Northern Ireland Young Musician of the Year Andrew Douglas (Lower 6th) as flute soloist.  In addition, its inspirational piece came in the form of ‘Lord of All Creation’, specially arranged for the School by Jonathan Rea.

Both pieces on the day were conducted by Head of Music Miss Rosemary Foster, accompanied by fellow Music teacher Mr Jonathan Arnold.

The recording will now be sent to the BBC’s Media Centre in Salford, England for judging by a panel of professional choral experts.

Good luck to the Chamber Choir in this process and we wait with anticipation to see if it is chosen as one of the final six senior choirs in the UK for the televised broadcast, which will take place in the new year.
