BPW Public Speaking Competition 2014

Congratulations to a number of Grosvenor pupils who represented the School with distinction at the annual 'Business and Professional Women’s Public Speaking Competition 2014', held at Newforge Country Club on Thursday 13th November.

The School was represented by two teams on the night, each comprising three pupils - assuming the roles of Speaker, Chairperson and Expressor of Thanks respectively.  Team one was made up of Hannah Martin, Sophie Coffey and Susannah Ashfield, all Lower Sixth, with Hannah speaking on the topic ‘Bring Back Our Girls’.  Forming the second team, meanwhile - again made up entirely of Lower Sixth pupils - were twins Andrew and Stuart Graham alongside Gareth Reid, with Andrew delivering his speech entitled ‘Let’s start the entrepreneur revolution!’  Following the conclusion of their speeches each orator was also required to field unseen questions from the audience on their chosen subject.

Although the competition was eventually won by St Columb’s College and R.B.A.I. all of Grosvenor’s representatives were commended on their performances and also benefited from the invaluable opportunity to develop their public speaking and teamwork skills.

Well done to all six of the School’s participants at this event, alongside Teacher in Charge of Public Speaking Mrs Cheryl Sullivan, without whose involvement and supervision the School’s participation in the competition would not have been possible.

We look forward to following the fortunes of Grosvenor’s various public speakers throughout the remainder of the year.
