British and Irish Junior Mountain Racing Championships

Congratulations to Grosvenor pupils Paul Pruzina, Aaron Harrison and Joel Harrison, each of whom were recently selected to represent Northern Ireland at the 'British and Irish Junior Mountain Racing Championships', held in Wicklow on Saturday 20th September.

Upper 6th pupil Paul was selected to compete in the Under 20 category, which saw competitors cover a 6.7 kilometre course that included 338 metres of climbing, finishing a commendable 19th from a field of 35 following a strong descent which saw him overtake three competitors.

In the Under 17 category, meanwhile, fourth former Aaron was placed 14th over the 5.6 kilometre course, out of a total field of 40, while Joel, Form Two, achieved a superb 5th place finish in the in the Under 15 event, out of a field of 15 from across the U.K.

Participation in the event represented a superb experience for all three boys, each of whom received free Northern Ireland tracksuits, vests, shorts and a sports grant.  The competition gave all three Grosvenor representatives the opportunity to test themselves against the top competitors from throughout the United Kingdom and we look forward to seeing them represent Northern Ireland again in the near future.
