British Youth Fencing Championships 2014

Congratulations to Grosvenor pupil Stephen Brown who secured the magnificent achievement of victory at the British Youth Fencing Championships, held in Sheffield over the weekend of Friday 3rd - Sunday 5th May.

Upper 6th pupil Stephen, competing in the Under 18 Boy’s Foil category, won all six of his poule matches to establish himself as the number one seed in the event before also securing victory in each of his direct elimination matches through to the final.  The final itself saw Stephen encounter a tough and extremely close contest, against English fencer John Easter, which reached a score of 14 apiece before Stephen achieved the decisive hit to emerge on the winning side of a 15-14 score line.

The British Youth Championships, held at the English Institute of Sport,is a national level event which represents the pinnacle of competition for youth fencers within Britain, featuring over 800 of the top young competitors from all over the United Kingdom.  Stephen’s victory at this year’s event therefore constitutes a major achievement for himself, Northern Ireland Fencing, Grosvenor Fencing Club and Grosvenor Grammar School.

Well done once again to Stephen on his outstanding success and all within Grosvenor now wish him the best of luck in his future fencing-related endeavours.
