‘Changing Minds’ Public Speaking Competition 2013

Congratulations to pupils Hannah Martin and Sophie Coffey who performed commendably at the recent ‘Changing Minds’ Public Speaking Competition, held at ‘Knockbracken Healthcare Park’ on Thursday 10th October.

The event, run by the ‘Belfast Health and Social Care Trust’ as part of Mental Health Week, saw Hannah and Sophie speak for five minutes on the topic: ‘Mental Illness: would you keep it a secret?’.  The girls competed against five other schools in total, including St Dominic’s School and St Louises, but were ultimately defeated by Mercy College.

In recent years the School has enjoyed victory at this event through Anna Cullen and Sarah McDowell as well as Rachel Boyd and Sophie McCormick.  Despite not winning this year the competition provided good experience for Hannah and Sophie, who will next be competing in the Belfast Soroptimist Competition at The Pavillion, Stormont, in November.
