Cricket - Derriaghy Cup Semi –Final

Commiserations to Grosvenor’s Under 14 cricket team which was defeated by R.B.A.I. in the semi-final of the The Derriaghy Cup on Thursday 20th June.

Grosvenor began the match encouragingly by restricting the visitors to 141 for the loss of 7 wickets from their allotted 25 overs, with captain Stuart Nelson returning outstanding figures of 5-15 and Craig Irvine (1-25) as well as Lewis Cunningham (1-22) also capturing key wickets.

Despite giving themselves a realistic chance of victory in the field, however, Grosvenor were dealt a serious blow when openers and N.C.U. under 15 players Irvine and Nelson each fell for single figures, leaving the remaining batsmen with a mountain to climb.  Despite number three batsman Matthew Tumilson top scoring with 21 the team unfortunately lost wickets at regular interval before eventually falling to 53 all out.

In spite of the nature of the semi-final defeat it should not be lost that the team as a whole has had an extremely encouraging season, with R.B.A.I’s victory representing Grosvenor’s only defeat in ten matches this season.  Well done to all who have helped to make the season as a whole so successful.
