Cricket - Schools' Cup semi final

Congratulations to Grosvenor’s 1st XI Cricket team which secured victory over Limavady Grammar School in the semi final of the Ulster Bank Schools’ Cup on Monday 25th June.

Batting first Grosvenor set about their task with determination and, despite losing openers Stuart Smyth and Aaron Johnston for single figures, had their innings stabilized by number three batsman and captain Alistair Shields.  Supported by Scott Irvine (18) and Neill Adams (23 not out), Shields showed the class that has earned him Ireland Under 19 recognition to produce an outstanding 99 not out - unlucky to finish just one short of a well deserved century, to help the home side set a formidable target of 155 from their 25 overs.

In defence of their healthy total Grosvenor never looked in danger, with Limavady openers Millar and Kennedy joint top-scoring with 20 apiece in an innings which never threatened the home side’s score - ending up on 103 for the loss of 8 wickets.

Congratulations to Grosvenor on reaching their first Schools’ Cup Final, where they will face Coleraine Academical Institution - conquerors of Down High School in the other semi final, on Tuesday 26th June.

All at Grosvenor wish its team the best of luck for this much anticipated encounter.
