Cricket - Ulster Bank Under 15 Schools' Cup

Congratulations to Grosvenor’s Under 15 cricket team which defeated Wallace High School in a nailbiting encounter in the opening round of the Ulster Bank Under 15 Schools’ Cup on Tuesday 1st May.

Having restricted Wallace to 109 from their allotted 20 overs, with bowlers Mark Johnston (1 for 20), Craig Irvine (1 for 17) and Adam Skelton (1 for 11) amongst the wickets, Grosvenor recovered from the early loss of opener Johnston to embark on an impressive run chase.  With third formers Irvine and Nelson contributing invaluable knocks of 46 and 30 respectively, the outcome of the match ultimately came down to the final ball of the away team’s innings, with Callum Byers’ boundary taking Grosvenor to a triumphant total of 111 for the loss of 6 wickets, and victory by 4 wickets, with just 2 runs to spare.

Given the incredibly close conclusion to the match, Byers’ lusty blow off the final ball understandably gave rise to scenes of wild celebration as Grosvenor basked in the glory of their hard-fought victory.

Well done to all of the Grosvenor players who performed so well on the day, as well as their coach Mr Andrew White.  All at the School wish them the best of luck in the next round of the competition.
