Cricket – Ulster Schools' Captaincy

Congratulations to Grosvenor pupil Stuart Nelson who was recently selected to captain the Ulster Schools’ cricket team in a series of fixtures throughout June and July.

Stuart, Grosvenor’s outgoing Head Boy who also plies his trade for North Down Cricket Club, was appointed to this prestigious position following the meeting of a selection panel in May; captaining the representative team in a fixture against MCC, held at Campbell College on Tuesday 20th June, while he is also due to lead the side against Southern Schools, at Leinster Cricket Club, on Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th June, as well as against a variety of Scottish sides during a tour to Glasgow in July.

Stuart’s selection and participation in these fixtures rounds off an extraordinary year for him personally, during which time he was not only appointed as GGS Head Boy but also captained the School’s 1st XI football team to victory in the Danske Bank Northern Ireland Schools’ Cup in March, as well as leading its 1st XI cricket team to success in the final of the Schools’ Plate competition at the end of June.

Well done to Stuart on his latest outstanding achievement, which again confirms his status as a natural leader of his peers, as well as his 1st XI coaches Mr Andrew White and Mr Jonathan Young; all at GGS wish Stuart the best of luck during his remaining fixtures with Ulster Schools', as well as throughout the remainder of his season with North Down CC.

Perhaps we will see Stuart driving for four or pulling for six on the pristine turf of Lord’s or The Oval in years to come.
