Danske Bank Girls' Schools' Cup Success!

Congratulations to Grosvenor’s girls’ rugby team which secured qualification for the quarter final of the Danske Bank Girls’ Schools’ Cup following its participation in the first round of the competition, hosted by Grosvenor itself on Thursday 26th February.

Following victories in their opening two encounters, over Down High School (3-1) and Aquinas ‘Bs’ (4-0), the girls faced off against an unbeaten Aquinas 'A' team in their final game.  Despite opening the scoring through Nicole Muirhead, Aquinas soon pegged the hosts back and eventually prevailed through a ‘golden try’ in extra time which, coupled with some superb defensive play throughout, helped them through to next week’s quarter finals as winners of the event.

Despite their eventual defeat in the final, however, Grosvenor were later consoled by the receipt of a ’wild card’ entry to compete in the quarter finals, following their exceptional efforts on the day.  Top try scorers for Grosvenor were Sophia Campbell (3), Abby McMaster (2) and Nicole Muirhead (2).

Well done to all of Grosvenor’s players, as well as coaches Mrs Karen Kirk and Mr Stuart Smyth, on their performances on the day; we wish them all the best of luck in the quarter finals of the event, which will be held at Wellington College on Tuesday 10th March, with the team hoping to secure further progress in a competition in which they finished as runners-up last year.
