Danske Bank Schools' Cup Round Two

Commiserations to the School’s 1st XV rugby team which fell to defeat against Omagh Academy in the second round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Cup on the morning of Saturday 24th January.

Despite ultimate defeat Grosvenor were the first side to register on the scoreboard, with prop Andrew Boyd crossing the Omagh line, following a series of penalties awarded to the hosts, to give GGS an early 5-0 lead. From this point, however, the team’s fortunes began to slide as Omagh soon hit back, growing into the game before an Adam Stephenson try brought the scores level at half-time.

Despite the two teams heading into the second half on level terms, however, Omagh steadily gained the ascendency as the match progressed, with a penalty from Stuart Ballentine as well as two further tries, one of which was converted, earning them a comfortable 15 point gap which was maintained until the final whistle, with the visitors prevailing by 20 points to 5.

Despite the disappointing nature of Grosvenor’s defeat on the day they will have the chance to make amends, to some extent, when they take on Dalriada in an away fixture in the Ulster Schools’ Bowl on Saturday 7th February - all within the School wish the team the best of luck for this encounter.
