'Day of Ambition' Careers Event

On Tuesday 6th December sixteen of the school’s Year Eleven pupils made the short journey to Bloomfield Collegiate where they attended the prestigious ‘Day of Ambition’, an event which brought together ten schools from the East Belfast area for a careers event aimed at encouraging entrepreneurship and initiative.

The event featured some of Northern Ireland’s most exciting local entrepreneurs and innovation companies – top-flight companies, makerspaces, incubators, pop-ups, labs and clusters, designers and digital technology. The theme for the day was “Stretch Yourself”, with pupils afforded the opportunity to experience some of the opportunities that exist in the world of innovation and creativity.

The day also included interactive workshops and opportunities for the 300 Year Eleven pupils in attendance to network with some of Northern Ireland’s coolest entrepreneurs and cutting-edge employers. In addition, of particular relevane to GGS was the final segment of the day: a question-and-answer session with two budding entrepreneurs who just happened to be former Grosvenor pupils Eve McLelland and Gareth Reid – Eve talking about her innovative ‘EmBed’ design and Gareth about his ‘Write to Read’ app which is designed to assist dyslexic pupils with their reading.

Many thanks to Bloomfield Collegiate for hosting the event and to Head of Year Eleven Mr Cowan who kindly accompanied the School’s pupil representatives on the day.
