District Cross Country Championships

Congratulations to Grosvenor’s courageous cross country runners who performed admirably at the recent County Down District Championships, held at Delamont on Wednesday 31st January.

The event saw a number of runners achieve selection for the upcoming Ulster Championships, to be held at Mallusk on Wednesday 13th February.  In the Minor Boys’ category Form One pupil Aston Edmond achieved individual selection for the Ulsters as a result of his 10th place finish whilst this feat was emulated by Sophie Read (Form 3) who finished 9th in the Junior Girls’ race.

In the Junior Boys’ event Grosvenor’s team of eight competitors secured overall victory in the team competition, and with it selection to compete at the Ulster Championships, thanks to impressive performances from Connor Kernohan (13th place), Finlay Quinn (14th), Daniel Martin (15th), Michael Todorov (17th) and Joshua Clarke (31st).

Perhaps most impressive of all, however, was the individual victory of Lower 6th pupil Andrew Wright in the Senior Boys’ category, who will now be looking  to improve on his 4th placed finish at last year’s Ulster Championships in the Intermediate Boys’ category.

Well done to all of Grosvenor’s pupils and members of staff who braved the horrendous conditions at last week’s District Championships and we wish all its qualifiers the best of luck at the upcoming Ulster Championships as well as throughout the remainder of the season.
