Edgar Graham Memorial Public Speaking Competition 2014

On the evening of Wednesday 19th November Grosvenor pupils Hannah Martin and Stewart McClune, both Lower Sixth, participated in the prestigious ‘Edgar Graham Memorial Public Speaking Competition’ - run annually by the ‘Ulster Unionist Women's Council’ to commemorate the life of former Ulster Unionist party member and lawyer Edgar Graham.

The event was held in Parliament Buildings, Stormont, courtesy of host Mrs Jo-Anne Dobson MLA, with prizes distributed by Ms Lynda Bryans, wife of Ulster Unionist Party leader Mike Nesbitt.

A wealth of top grammar schools were represented at the event - including Methodist College Belfast, Portadown College and Sullivan Upper. The winner eventually came from Ballymena Academy, but Hannah and Stewart both performed superbly, speaking for five minutes each on the topics of ‘Bring Back our Girls ‘ and ‘The World Wide Web’ respectively. They will both have another opportunity to better their results next year as the competition is open to both Lower and Upper Sixths.
