English Department visit to Q.U.B.

On Wednesday 13th February a group of Upper Sixth English Literature students travelled to Q.U.B. to attend a lecture on 'The Butcher Boy' by Patrick McCabe, which features on the CCEA A2 Level Specification.

This was the first in a series of visits to Queen’s arranged by the English Department. The lectures are beneficial as they add to the existing understanding of the set texts but also stretch the abilities of our gifted and talented pupils as they are exposed to more challenging interpretations that are part of undergraduate study.

This particular visit was enjoyed by all the students and it has stimulated more sophisticated debate about the novel, which will only serve them well come the final examinations in May and June.

Many thanks to Mr Kernohan for organising the trip and the School’s A Level English students look forward to further visits to Queen’s over the coming weeks.
