F.O. G. Sponsored Walk 2018

On Friday 22nd June lessons came to a temporary halt in Grosvenor Grammar as the School staged its second annual ‘Friends of Grosvenor’ sponsored walk, with over five hundred pupils from years eight - eleven, as well as the majority of the teaching staff, taking part.

Working in partnership with the Connswater Greenway project, the participating pupils enjoyed a challenging five mile walk along the Greenway, starting at Grosvenor itself and finishing at Victoria Park, with the route, there and back, taking in such local landmarks as Orangefield and Dixon Parks, as well as C.S. Lewis Square.

Pupils were set the challenge of raising as much money as possible for the initiative, with funds being donated to the Friends of Grosvenor organisation, run by parents of the School, which continues to provide support with extra- curricular activities and opportunities year-upon-year.

The money raised from this year’s walk, which currently stands at an impressive total of over £6000, will provide much-needed help in relation to activities in the fields of Drama and Music, with the School planning to invest all of the money generated to help ensure that these popular activities continue to thrive.

Prior to the walk it was announced that the Form Class that raised the highest total would be rewarded with a DVD afternoon, on Thursday 28th June, with 8E achieving this feat and their efforts being rewarded with a showing of ‘The Jungle Book’ by its Form Tutor, Miss Linda Knox. In addition, the pupil with the most money raised in each year group is due to be acknowledged at the School’s end-of-year Assembly, due to be held on Friday 29th June, where Karl Martin (8S; £110), Jacob Howe (9V; £140), Rory Janssen (10G; £70) and Lewis Smyth (11S; £60) will each be presented with a £25 Amazon voucher in recognition of their efforts.

Many thanks to F.O.G., along with vice-principal Mr Philip Brunt, for organising such a worthwhile endeavor and we now look forward to seeing extracurricular Drama and Musical activities thriving throughout the School next year.
