Fencing - South of Ireland Open

Congratulations to Grosvenor Grammar School fencer Stephen Brown who performed superbly to achieve second place in the Mens’ Foil category at the recent South of Ireland Open.

The highly contested event, held in Cork on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th August, saw Stephen produce some of his finest fencing to reach the final, where he was narrowly beaten by 15 points to 12 by Conor Nagle, a fencer who has dominated his age group within Ireland over the past number of years.

In addition Grosvenor pupils Jake Wylie and Gareth Reid, both Form 5, also made the long journey to participate in the event, with Jake achieving 9th place out of 22 competitors in the Mens’ Sabre category and Gareth finishing 22nd out of 36 participants in the Mens’ Foil.

Well done to Grosvenor’s three musketeers on their admirable performances at this event and we look forward to hearing of further success from them and many of the school’s other fencers throughout the year.
