Football - N.I. Schools' Cup Quarter Final victory

Congratulations to Grosvenor’s 1st XI football team which routed Ballyclare High School by an impressive five goals to nil in the quarter final of the Northern Ireland School’s Cup, held at Seaview on the afternoon of Wednesday 8th February.

The scoring was opened by defender Daniel Larmour on five minutes when he slotted home from the edge of the box following a pinpoint through ball from Kurtis Elliott.  Following this impressive opening the lead was then increased by Josh Kelly , cutting in from the left hand side before unleashing a curling effort into the top corner of the net, before a corner from Matthew Tumilson found, again, Daniel Larmour, who smashed home a side-footed volley for his second of the day, to provide GGS with a comfortable 3-0 lead heading into the interval.

The second half commenced much as the first had ended, with Grosvenor dominating possession and Michael Todorov, in particular, controlling the midfield. With this in mind, it was perhaps inevitable that GGS would increase its lead and, in keeping with the run of play, this happened when a Matthew Tumilson pass found Josh Kelly who carried the ball with great pace before rounding the BHS goalkeeper and slotting into the empty net. To round off a superb team performance, the lively and effective Tumilson put the icing on Grosvenor’s cake when, following a poor clearance from one of the Ballyclare central defenders, he headed in from close range to secure an impressive five goal margin of victory.

As the scoreline suggests, Grosvenor’s team performance on the day was truly outstanding, with particularly notable performances coming from Daniel Larmour and Josh Kelly in what was a totally dominant and confident overall display. The team now looks forward to its semi final against R.B.A.I. - to be held on Wednesday 22nd February (kick-off 2pm), again at Seaview; all within GGS wish the players, as well as its coaches – Mr Tomkins, Mr Winters and Mr Kernohan, the best of luck for this encounter.
