Football - Vauxhall Senior Cup

Congratulations to Grosvenor’s Under 16 football team which came out on top in the Vauxhall Senior Cup “Tie of the Round” against De La Salle from Downpatrick in a sporting contest on Wednesday 14th November.

Playing at Seaview, the visitors took an early lead after 4 minutes when Jamal McQuoid, who is on the books of Aberdeen, rose to power a header into the top corner of the net.  The lead proved to be short-lived, however, as 8 minutes later Grosvenor drew level; a quickly taken corner kick caught the Downpatrick defence napping and Andy Foster fired a low cross into the goal.

The decisive goal came with a quarter of an hour remaining and was worthy of winning any cup tie.  Grosvenor captain James Milligan won the ball 30 yards out and advanced a few paces before firing an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net - that strike and an all-round impressive performance from the talented midfielder deservedly earned him the “Man of the Match” award.

Grosvenor now face an away fixture against Portadown College in the 3rd round of the competition – all within the School wish the team, as well as their coach Mr Derek Moore, the best of luck for this encounter.
