Form Three STEM Event

Friday 28th February provided educational and enjoyable for the School’s form three pupils when its Physics department staged an informative and interactive STEM (Sciene, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) event in the William Moles Hall

The event was run by Sentinus, for Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE), to encourage pupils into STEM-based careers.  The event was run as a morning session for three of the form classes within the year group and then repeated in the afternoon for the remaining form classes, so every pupil in third form had the opportunity to attend.

Peter Waugh, an ex-marine engineer, from Sentinus, ran the event and was supported by two graduate engineers from NIE who talked about their jobs and future employment opportunities in the Northern Ireland renewable energy industry.  There was also a competition for the pupils to see which group could build the best solar powered desk lamp, which proved particularly popular.

Many thanks to Sentinus for delivering such a worthwhile event throughout the day, as well as the School’s Physics department, led by Mrs Melanie Fox and also including Miss Sandra Harte and Mrs Fiona Watt, whose careful organization and planning made the day possible

Third form pupils enjoy the STEM event, organised by the School's Physics department, on Friday 28th February
