G.G.S. Charity Update

On the morning of Tuesday 5th February Grosvenor welcomed Brian Shanks from the ‘Simon Community NI’ to its Senior Assembly to receive a cheque for £400, raised following the School’s highly successful Christmas Jumper Day, held on Thursday 11th December.

During the assembly the School’s Charity Co-ordinator Ms Lorraine Gray outlined the numerous nominated charities for which the school’s pupils have raised funds this year, which thus far include: ‘Tiny Life’ (£150.00), ‘Marie Curie' (£200.00), ‘Combat Stress’ (£150.00), the ‘N.I. Childrens’ Hospice’ (£250.00), ‘Indee Rose Trust’ (£100.00), ‘Cystic Fibrosis Trust’ (£200.00) and ‘Bandanas for the Brave’ (£100.00).

In addition the School has also raised £250.00 for ‘Brainwaves N.I.’ and £200.00 for ‘Disability Sport’ following whole-school collections in September, £2250.00 for ‘Stand Up to Cancer’ following a highly popular Ice Bucket Challenge in October, £120.00 as a result of the 'Blythswood Shoe Box Appeal', also in October, and £300.00 each for the 'I.R.F.U. Charitable Trust' and the 'British Legion Poppy Appeal', both in November.

To date the total amount raised for the academic year 2014-2015 stands at an incredible £5170.00, putting the school over half-way towards its overall target of £10000 for the year.

Well done to Ms Gray, alongside her dedicated Sixth Form Charity Committee, without whose efforts such incredible sums of money could not have been donated.

The school and its pupils now look forward to raising plenty more money for further worthwhile charities over the remainder of the year.
