German Exchange 2016

The week of Saturday 27th August to Saturday 3rd September 2016 saw some thirty pupils from throughout the School, accompanied by staff members Mrs Dorman, Mr Arnold and Mr Taggart, commence the academic year by participating in the annual exchange with its long-established German partner School, ‘Evangelisches Gymnasium’ in Lippstadt.

During the course of the week the Grosvenor contingent, who were each hosted by separate German families for the duration of their stay, were afforded the opportunity to participate in a plethora of worthwhile activities, such as: a tour of Lippstadt on Monday 29th August, a day trip to Dortmund which included a tour of Borussia Dortmund’s football stadium on Tuesday 30th, a canoe trip in Bellingshausen on Wednesday 31st, a day trip to the ‘Movie Park' theme park on Thursday 1st September and a barbeque for all participating pupils and families on the evening of Friday 2nd.

Each year the German Exchange, which has now been running successfully  for over two decades, proves highly popular and provides an excellent opportunity for Grosvenor pupils to improve their language skills in a real-life environment.

Many thanks to Mrs Dorman who not only participated in the trip but also put a huge deal of effort into diligently organizing it, as well as Mr Arnold and Mr Taggart, without whose attendance the trip would not have been able to run.

The second leg of the German Exchange will take place in March 2017, when pupils from ‘Evangelisches Gymnasium’ are scheduled to come to Northern Ireland to be hosted by the families of those Grosvenor pupils participating in the exchange – we look forward to welcoming our German partners to the School during this week and continuing the successful and long-established link between the two Schools.
