German Exchange – ‘Away Leg’ 2014

The week of Saturday 13th to Saturday 20th September saw some twenty pupils from throughout the School, accompanied by staff members Mr Alan Cowan and Miss Andrea Elwood, participate in the annual exchange with its German partner School, ‘Evangelisches Gymnasium’ in Lippstadt.

During the course of the week the Grosvenor contingent, who were each hosted by separate German families for the duration of their stay, were afforded the opportunity to participate in such activities as: mini golf, a visit to football club Borussia Dortmund, a canoe tour of the river Lippe, a barbeque and a day trip to Cologne which included sightseeing, shopping and a cable car ride across the Rhine.

Each year the German Exchange proves highly popular and provides an excellent opportunity for Grosvenor pupils to improve their language skills in a real-life environment.

Many thanks to Mr Cowan and Miss Elwood who gave of their time freely to participate in the trip, as well a Head of German Mrs Fiona Dorman, whose careful and diligent organisation helped to make it possible.

The second leg of the German Exchange will take place in the new year, when pupils from ‘Evangelisches Gymnasium’ come to Northern Ireland to be hosted by the families of those Grosvenor pupils participating in the exchange – we look forward to welcoming our German partners to the School during this week and continuing the successful and long-established link between the two Schools.
