German Exchange – ‘First Leg’ 2013

The week of Saturday 21st to Saturday 28th September saw the School embark on one of its most long-established initiatives when some thirty pupils from throughout the School, accompanied by staff members Mrs Dorman, Miss Elwood and Mr Smith, participated in the annual exchange with its German partner School ‘Evangelisches Gymnasium’ in Lippstadt.

During the course of the week the Grosvenor contingent, who were each hosted by separate German families for the duration of their stay, were afforded the opportunity to participate in a range of worthwhile such activities such as: a tour of Lippstadt, bowling, a day trip to Paderborn, a tour of the Heinz Nixdorf-Museum, a day trip to Cologne and a cable car ride across the Rhine.

Each year the German Exchange proves highly popular and provides an excellent opportunity for Grosvenor pupils to improve their language skills in a real-life environment.

Many thanks to Head of German Mrs Dorman whose diligent planning of the trip helped to ensure that it ran smoothly throughout, as well as Miss Elwood and Mr Smith whose presence on the trip was also greatly appreciated.  Finally, sincere gratitude is also due to all at ‘Evangelisches Gymnasium’ itself, who provided a packed and enjoyable itinerary for their visitors throughout the week.

The second leg of the Exchange will take place in March, when pupils from Lippstadt are due to come to Northern Ireland to be hosted by the families of those Grosvenor pupils participating in the initiative – we look forward to welcoming our German partners to the School during this week in order to continue the successful and long- established link between the two Schools.
