German Film Day @ QFT

On Wednesday 13th November a group of eight Lower 6th and six Upper 6th pupils, accompanied by Miss Elwood, made the short journey to the Queen’s Film Theatre where they received the opportunity to take part in an AS/A2 German Film Day for pupils and teachers of German from across Northern Ireland.

This year’s film was 'Almanya - Willkommen in Deutschland' which was a great hit when it was released in Germany in 2010 and won the German award for best film.  It is a German comedy covering the key topics of integration and migration, cultural history and German history. Pupils were given an introduction to the film by Sabine Übel, a Lecturer working for the Goethe-Institut in London and Berlin whilst after the film they took part in a workshop with activities in German to develop their language and understanding of the film.

All pupils agreed that it was an extremely worthwhile experience, having both greatly enjoyed the film and enhanced their knowledge of German culture and language.

We look forward to more pupils from the School attending Q.U.B’s annual German Film Day again next year.
