German Immersion 2014

On Tuesday 29th April Grosvenor’s highly active German Department staged its annual Immersion Experience as a range of pupils in Lower and Upper 6th participated in a variety of fun and educational activities designed to consolidate their knowledge, understanding and language use.

Some of the activities in which the pupils participated included: ice breaker games where the punishment for speaking in English was to provide a rendition of ‘Mein Hut, er hat drei Ecken’ (My hat it has three corners); ‘Speed Dating’ during which pupils had to speak for two minutes on a particular A Level topic before assessing each others’ performance and moving on to a new partner; Mock orals conducted by teachers Mrs Dorman, Mr Cowan and Miss Elwood, and the making of three promotional videos for the German Government, on the environment, the importance of family life and the dangers of drugs.

Finally, the event was rounded off with dinner at ‘Blue Chicago Grill’ in Dundonald – the perfect way to conclude such a busy and action-packed day.

Well done to everybody who attended the experience and, in particular, Head of German Mrs Fiona Dorman, without whose organisation and planning the event would not have proven so successful.

We now wish all of the School’s AS and A2 German students the best of luck as they prepare for their public examinations over the coming weeks.
