GGS Spanish Trip to Barcelona

On Monday 19th June forty of Grosvenor’s most enthusiastic Spanish linguists, accompanied by five members of staff, gathered at the gates of Grosvenor in the early hours of the morning before heading to Aldergrove Airport from where their much-anticipated five day excursion to the megacity of Barcelona began.

Over five incredibly busy and hugely enjoyable days the 45 person-strong party enjoyed a boat trip around Barcelona Port on Monday 19th; a tour of Barcelona F.C’s world-renowned Camp Nou stadium as well as a visit to Parc Güell, the city’s famous public park system, on Tuesday 20th; a guided tour of the city, ending at the oasis which is Parc de la Ciutadella, as well as an afternoon spent at Barcelona Zoo on Wednesday 21st; before perhaps the highlight of the entire week on Thursday 22nd when the group embarked upon the much-heralded Port Aventura Theme Park, where all in attendance enjoyed the thrill of various rides and water-based activities, and Mr Cowan’s shrieks of terror could be heard as far as the Spanish-Portugese border upon regretfully tackling one of the theme park’s famed rollercoasters.

The trip provided an invaluable opportunity for all present to develop their Spanish skills whilst experiencing the atmosphere and culture for which Barcelona is famed: with this in mind it is no surprise that the trip proved such an overwhelming success and the next visit to the picturesque Basque city is now eagerly awaited.

Many thanks to Grosvenor’s Head of Spanish Mrs Amanda Salt whose diligent organisation helped to ensure the smooth running of the trip, as well as fellow teachers Mr Cowan, Miss Irvine and Mrs Lander, accompanied by former pupil Matthew Carson, whose presence on the trip was also much appreciated.

We look forward to hearing more of the Spanish department’s movements and activities over the coming academic year.

A number of Grosvenor's visiting delegation enjoy a visit to Barcelona's Olympic Stadium during a tour of the city.

A number of female students pose for the camera during the GGS contingent's stop-off at the world-famous Nou Camp stadium.
