Girls football - Northern Ireland Under 17 selection

Congratulations to Grosvenor pupil Sasha Clare, Year Twelve, who was recently selected to represent the Northern Ireland girls’ under 17 football team.

Sasha’s selection onto this elite squad came following an intense period of training, which began on February and ran throughout the summer months – with the preliminary squad meeting up four times a week to train from 10.30am – 2.30pm on each occasion.

At the conclusion of this period of training Sasha, who had clearly impressed her coaches throughout this time, was fortunate enough to be selected to travel with the final squad to Estonia, where she was selected at left-back and put in a commanding performance during an impressive 2-0 victory against the hosts.

Well done to Sasha, whose selection to play in this team is all the more impressive given that, as a Year Twelve pupil, she is still only 16, and thus has a further year remaining in which to compete at this age group.

We look forward to hearing of many more of Sasha’s achievements over the remainder of the year and beyond.
