Girls’ Rugby – Danske Bank Schools’ Cup Eastern Qualifiers

Congratulations to Grosvenor’s girls’ rugby team which emerged victorious from the Eastern Qualifiers of the Danske Bank Schools’ Cup, held at the Valley Leisure Centre on Thursday 16th March, to secure qualification for the final of the competition, which will be held at Kingspan Stadium on Monday 3rd April.

The team, captained by Deputy Head Girl Bethany McDowell and coached by GGS P.E. teacher Mrs Kirk, performed superbly on the day to defeat teams from Royal School Armagh, Antrim Grammar, Omagh Academy, Victoria College and Belfast Royal Academy, as well as drawing with last year's finalists Ballyclare High School, to ensure that they finished the event with the highest points total of all the competing teams.

Top try scorers on the day were Holly Brannigan, Claire McKane and Sophie Larmour, each of whom touched down three times in total.

The squad now looks forward to the climax of the tournament at the beginning of April, when they will face stiff opposition, in the form of Royal School Dungannon, in an attempt to claim the trophy which they previously won in 2013, when they defeated Enniskillen Collegiate.

Well done to the girls on their superb performance - the entire school community now looks forward to the upcoming, much-anticipated final of the event, when the players will hope to gain Grosvenor’s second Schools’ Cup in its very successful recent history within the competition.
