Girls' Rugby - Schools' Cup Final

Commiserations to Grosvenor’s Girls’ rugby team which was narrowly defeated by Enniskillen Collegiate in the final of the 2014 Schools’ Cup, held at Queen’s University’s Malone Playing Fields on the afternoon of Tuesday 25th March.

The encounter represented the fifth consecutive year that these two teams have met in the final, with Grosvenor emerging victorious in 2012.  On this occasion, however, five first-half tries from Enniskillen put them in a strong position heading into the second half and, despite some strong Grosvenor play, they were unable to narrow the gap, losing eventually by 10 scores to 7.

Grosvenor defeated Victoria College in their semi-final at the start of March, while the Collegiate overcame Fivemiletown College in the last four to set up another clash between the two Schools.

This year’s competition has been the biggest ever in terms of participation, with more than fifty teams involved.

Well done to Grosvenor’s girls, along with coaches Mrs Karen Kirk and Mr Stuart Smyth, on their achievement of reaching the final, and congratulations to Enniskillen on their latest triumph.
