Golf - Irish Senior Boys’ Matchplay Qualifying Competition

Congratulations to Grosvenor pupils Nathan Kirk, Ross Nelson, Glenn McCreery and Matthew Tumilson who made up the Grosvenor Golf team for the Irish Senior Boys’ Matchplay Qualifying Competition, held at Dunmurry Golf Club on Monday 8th September 2014.

With this being a standard scratch competition handicaps were not taken into consideration and it was simply the boys versus the course. Ross performed superbly on the day to shoot an excellent level par round of 70, finishing second in the individual competition overall to get the team off to the perfect start.

Nathan followed up Ross’ impressive start with a solid round of 76 to put the team very much in contention. Despite their best efforts, however, Glenn and Matthew fell just short and the team’s overall score of 88 Stableford points saw it finish just outside of the top four and a place in the Matchplay Finals.

Despite just missing out on the finals each of the four boys deserve great credit for their performances on the day.  Many thanks also go to the team’s coach, Head of Sports Studies Mr Kyle McCallan, whose preparation and supervision of the team for the event was greatly appreciated.
