Habitat for Humanity ‘Site Day’ 2016

On Friday 18th November ten selected pupils from Grosvenor’s Year Thirteen, accompanied by Head of Careers Mrs Browne, made the journey to St. Michael’s Church of Ireland Parish Church on the Lower Shankill Road, where they carried out work relating to the ‘Habitat for Humanity’-related initiative in which they are currently involved, alongside pupils from ‘Our Lady and St. Patrick’s College’.

The aim of the initiative is to help build a strong community in West Belfast. Situated on the Lower Shankill Road, St Michael’s has a vision to reach out to the wider community. In order to facilitate this, pupils from GGS and OLASPC worked together to upgrade the church halls in order to enable social action projects which serve the wider community. These projects include: debt counselling services, budgeting and money management, a 'Job Club' aimed at the unemployed, a 'Sports and Social' lunch club for older people and many more, each of which are designed to positively impact the health and wellbeing of people of all ages.

All ten of Grosvenor’s pupil participants thoroughly enjoyed their involvement on the day and are looking forward to further events, which are planned as part of the project, over the remainder of the term.
