Highland Dancing – ‘Braemar Royal Highland Gathering’ 2018

Congratulations to Grosvenor pupil Leah McIlwrath, Year Ten, who has just returned from attending the highly prestigious ‘Braemar Royal Highland Gathering’, held in the village of Braemar, Scotland, amidst the heather-clad Cairngorm Mountains, on Saturday 1st September 2018.

In front of an incredible 15,000 spectators Leah was Northern Ireland’s only representative on the day and was afforded the opportunity to dance in the presence of Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II, HRH Prince Charles and HRH Princess Anne at the event, which is held annually on the first Saturday of September.

Leah, who attends the ‘Michelle Johnston School of Highland Dancing’, based in Moneyreagh, was selected to compete at this event alongside champion dancers from as far afield as Scotland, England, Canada, Australia and the United States of America in the highlight of what has already proven to be an incredibly successful 2018 for her so far: for a third consecutive year Leah retained her title as Ulster Champion while she was once again nominated to attend the elite ‘Scottish Dance Teachers Alliance Scholarship’ - due to take place in Motherwell this coming November.

All at Grosvenor are incredibly pleased to hear of Leah’s continued excellence in the field of Highland Dancing, and wish her the best of luck as she endeavors to maintain and even improve on her incredible recent performances over the months and years to come.
