IET ‘IngeNIous Female Student’ Competition 2014

Congratulations to Grosvenor pupil Eve McLelland, Lower 6th, who recently achieved the runner-up position in the prestigious Institution of Engineering and Technology’s (I.E.T.) ‘IngeNIous Female Student’ competition 2014.

The competition was open to female students in years twelve and thirteen from across Northern Ireland and asked them to write an essay entitled ‘The Greatest Invention of the 21st Century’.

Eve’s second place finish was a particularly outstanding achievement given the quantity and calibre of the competition’s entrants, although this particular success is not her first T&D-related achievement in recent times; in 2012 Eve was chosen as winner of the province-wide ‘Sentinus Young Innovators’’ competition for her ingenious fire hose design, while in the same year she was also victorious at the UK-wide ‘Big Bang Young Scientist and Engineers’ Fair’, held in Birmingham.

Well done to Eve on her latest achievement, as well as her teachers – Head of T&D Mr Sammy Taggart and well as Mrs Janine Black, whose direction and input have been instrumental in her success.
