Intermediate and Senior County Down District Track and Field Championships 2015

Congratulations to Grosvenor’s Inter and Senior athletics teams which each enjoyed a number of notable success at the County Down District Championships, held at the Mary Peters’ Track at the beginning of May.

In the Inter category the boys’ team fared especially well, with the 4x 100 metre relay team of Andrew Proctor, Ben Stevenson, Nathan Chan and Jonny Little securing gold with a time of 47.2 seconds and Nathan Chan matching this feat thanks to a distance of 11.98 metres in the triple jump.  Elsewhere Aaron Harrison (1500 metres; 4 m 35.8s), Jonny Little (100 metre hurdles; 16.2s) Connor Kernohan (800 metres; 2m 10.6s) and Andrew Proctor (400 metres; 54.3s) also performed well to achieve silver in their respective events

In the Inter girls’ category Anna Stanfield led the way with victory in the High Jump with a clearance of 1.54 metres before also claiming silver in the 300 metres hurdles in a time of 53.5 seconds. So too Lucy Armstrong was placed second in the 100 metres with a time of 13.1 seconds while Lauren Irvine finished third in the shot with a distance of 9.44 metres.

In the Senior boys’ age group, meanwhile, Gareth Thompson achieved a sprint double with victory in both the 100 and 200 metres respectively (11.0s and 23.1s), before anchoring the 4 x 100 metres relay team, also including Zac McNabb, Gareth Lammey and Adam Wilson, to victory in a time of 47.3s.  In addition Adam Wilson was placed second in the 100 metres with 11.5s, Stuart Graham attained third in both the 800 and 1500 metres events (2m 08.7s and 5m 06.0s) and Isaac Richardson secured third in the javelin with a throw of 23.60s.

Finally in the Senior girls’ events Lois Hagen ran superbly to win the 400 metres event in a time of 61.6s before also competing as part of a victorious 4x100 metres relay team, also containing Sophia Campbell, Nicole Muirhead and Lucy Armstrong, to set a new District record of 51.0s.  Elsewhere Nicole Muirhead (200 metres; 27.7s) and Katie Allen (800 metres; 2m 58.5s) were also placed second in their respective individual events while Sophia Campbell secured third in the 100 metres with a time of 13.2s.
