Intermediate and Senior District Athletics Championships

Congratulations to Grosvenor’s Intermediate and Senior athletics teams which each enjoyed plentiful success at the County Down District Athletics Championships, held at the Mary Peters Track on Thursday 1st May.

In the Men’s events Upper 6th pupil Andrew Wright secured a double gold medal, in the 800 and 1500 metres respectively, a feat emulated by Lower 6th sprinter Gareth Thompson in the Senior Boys’ 100 and 200 metres events.  Elsewhere Andrew Proctor was a double silver medallist in the 100 and 200 metres in the Intermediate age group while Chris Allen (Inter 400 metres), Matthew Hedley (Senior Triple Jump) and the Senior Relay team also achieved second place in their respective events.  Finally, bronze meals were achieved by Andrew Graham in the Inter 800 metres, as well as the Intermediate relay team.

In the girls’ categories Sophie Rea was placed second in the Intermediate 3000 metres while, amongst the Senior team, Sophia Campbell (100 metres), Rachel Cullen (200 metres), Nicole Muirhead (400 metres), Alice Greeves (1500 metres), Emma Larmour (Long Jump), Karen O’Hare (Javelin) and the 4x100 metre relay team of Nicole Muirhead, Emma Larmour, Rachel Cullen and Chloe McMaster were each placed third and thus secured qualification for the upcoming Ulster Championships.

Well done to all of Grosvenor’s competitors at last week’s event and we wish all of its qualifiers the best of luck at the imminent Ulster Championships, which will be held at the Antrim Forum on Saturday 17th May.
