Interprovincial Table Tennis Achievement

Congratulations to Grosvenor pupils Emma Ludlow (Form 5) and James Magrath (Form 1) who achieved success whilst representing Ulster at the Junior Interprovincial Table Tennis Championships, held in Mayo over the weekend of Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th May.

Emma, a seasoned campaigner at Interprovincial level, secured victory in all of her matches again Leinster, Munster and Connaught to achieve first place, and a gold medal, in the Under 17 girls’ event.

This impressive performance comes at the end of a hugely successful season for Emma in which she has enjoyed sustained success which has taken her to first place in Ulster, and third in Ireland, at Under 17 level as well as 3rd in Ulster and 6th in Ireland overall.

In addition James, who like Emma is a member of Glenburn Table Tennis Club, secured his first Ulster cap at the same event, competing in the Under 12 age group.  During the event James performed superbly, exceeding his expectations to defeat the number 4 player in Ireland and losing only narrowly to the number 1 player after claiming the opening set.  Such impressive performances helped his team to a highly credible bronze medal, which could easily have been even better but for a narrow 5-4 loss in their deciding match.

This particular achievement came at the end of a season where James won the Secondary Schools' Under 12 Individual Table Tennis Cup for Grosvenor and led the School’s Under 14 boys’ team (made up primarily of Form 3 pupils) to third place in the Secondary Schools' League, with James losing only one individual match.

Outside of school representation James also won the Under12 Ulster Invitational Championships at Christmas, was part of the Glenburn team which won a league and cup double, won a Challenger event in Banbridge in November and finished as runner-up in the Fermanagh Junior Open.

Well done to both Emma and James on their superb seasons and we wish them further success throughout the remainder of their table tennis careers.
