Irish National Senior Table Tennis Championships

Congratulations to Grosvenor pupil Emma Ludlow who sensationally achieved gold at the Irish National Senior Table Tennis Championships, held in Limerick over the weekend of Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd March.

The ladies’ event in which Emma was competing was held over two days with Emma, seeded sixth, playing her group and quarter-final matches on the Saturday.  After victory in all three of her group matches, including over number three seed Hannah Lynch-Dawson, Emma progressed to the last eight where, despite coming up against an opponent seeded one place above her, she prevailed comfortably, securing victory over Marta Zareba by an impressive four sets to none.

After such an outstanding opening day Emma entered the second day of the event with high expectations, despite facing top seed Katie McGlone in the semi-final.  In an initially tight match Emma played superbly to edge three-two ahead before taking the sixth set comfortably and, with it, the match.

Following such an incredible run of performances Emma entered the final, against Ulster team-mate and three time former champion Ashley Givan, understandably nervous.  Despite featuring at this stage of such a prestigious senior event for the first time, and with the match being watched on livestream around the country, Emma held her nerve to take the match by four sets to two and, in the process, secure her first National Senior Title.

Well done to Emma on such an outstanding series of performances - she is currently working hard towards selection for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and, as her performances in Limerick show, she will provide a formidable test for anybody against whom she is drawn in her various competitions between now and the end of the season.
