Irish Schools’ Cross Country Championships 2017

Congratulations to Grosvenor pupil Dylan McBride who performed superbly to win gold at the ‘Irish Life Health All Ireland Schools’ Cross Country Championships’ 2017, held at Mallusk Playing Fields on Saturday 11th March.

Dylan, who trains with Willowfield Harriers A.C., followed up his gold medals at the County Down District Championships and Ulster Schools’ Championships, both held in February, by again crossing the finish line in first place at the conclusion of the hotly-contested Minor Boys’ 2km race, following an outstanding display of front-running from gun to tape.

Dylan’s victories at this season’s District and Ulster Championships were his second in successive years at these events, having also secured gold in the Mini Boys’ Year Eight category at both competitions in 2016; nevertheless his success at this year’s Irish Championships marks 2017 out as undoubtedly his most successful cross-country season to date.

In addition to Dylan’s victory, fellow GGS pupil Aaron Harrison also represented the School with distinction, this time in the Senior Boys’ category, finishing a highly respectable 35th amongst a high-class field – despite, as a Year Thirteen pupil, still having another full year in which to compete within this age category.

Well done to Dylan on his latest impressive achievement; all at GGS wish him the best of luck for the remainder of the cross country season and hope that his outstanding form will also extend to the track during the forthcoming track and field season
