James MacMillan A Level Composition Seminar

On Thursday 8th November Grosvenor Grammar School’s A Level Music Students were fortunate enough to attend an A Level Composition Seminar with world-renowned composer James MacMillan at The Ulster Hall.

Grosvenor’s musicians were joined at the event by A level students from throughout Northern Ireland as well as Roger Trigg, Music Advisor for CCEA.  The seminar, organised as part of The Ulster Orchestra Education programme, provided direction on tackling the composition component for AS and A2 and also served as preparation for James MacMillan conducting the Ulster Orchestra in their renditions of two of his own compositions – ‘The Sacrifice:  Three Interludes’ and ‘The Confession of Isobel Gowdie’ on the evening of Friday 9th November.

Many thanks to Grosvenor’s Head of Music Miss Rosemary Foster as well as fellow Music teacher Mr Jonathan Arnold for accompanying the School’s pupils to this most worthwhile event.
