Junior School Rugby Tour

In the early hours of Thursday 17th October Grosvenor’s Under 13 and Under 14 rugby squads, comprising 43 pupils, congregated at the School before departing on their much anticipated three day tour to Manchester.

Over the course of the trip each side competed in two fixtures, against Lancaster Royal Grammar School and Altrincham Grammar School, as well as attending a Heineken Cup match between Leicester Tigers and Treviso, enjoying a tour of Langtree Park, the stadum of St. Helens Rugby League Football Club and experiencing the impressive Trafford Shopping Centre.

Both sets of fixtures proved highly competitive, with the Under 13s running out narrow losers in each match and the Under 14s prevailing in two hard-fought encounters.  Particularly impressive was the Under 14s victory in their second match, against Altrincham Grammar School, which ended in a 36-0 win against  stiff opposition following an outstanding second half display.

Many thanks to Mr Wilson whose organisation of the trip made it possible, as well as coaches Mr Cowan, Mr Lendrum, Mr Smyth and Mr Irvine who also attended.  Thank you also to Lancaster Royal and Altrincham Grammar Schools, not only for providing the opposition over the first two days of the tour but also for their generous hospitality following each set of fixtures.

We look forward to following the post-tour fortunes of the Under 13 and Under 14 XVs throughout the remainder of the season.
