Lagan Festival Success

Congratulations to Grosvenor pupil Ryan Simpson, Lower Sixth, who was recently placed as runner-up in a prestigious piano competition held as part of the Lagan Festival of Speech, Drama, Music and Art.

The competition attracted many students and teachers from all over Ireland, with Ryan being entered for the Grade 8 and above class – one of the most competitive categories across the festival.

The requirement of the class was for competitors to play two contrasting pieces that were each the equivalent in standard of Grade 8 or above. Following Ryan’s performance the adjudicator, highly impressed by his standard of musicianship, scored him with a percentage of 90, just 1% less than the overall winning score, which was attained by a student of Music from Queen’s University.

Ryan’s latest achievement comes following previous successes, in both Belfast and London, as part of the highly prestigious EPTA (European Piano Teachers’ Association) Piano competition earlier in the year, and confirms his status as a musician of the highest standard.

Well done to Ryan on his latest achievement and we wish him the best of luck in his future music-related endeavours.
