Little Shop of Horrors

The week beginning Monday 5th November saw Grosvenor stage its annual Senior Drama Production, performing ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ to in excess of 1500 audience members over four entertaining and action-packed performances.

Under the leadership of Director Miss Jenny McDowell and Musical Director Mr Jonathan Arnold this year’s cast and crew, comprising over 70 pupils in Forms 5 – Upper 6th, combined to deliver a colourful take on composer Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman’s 1982 production about a hapless florist who raises a plant that feeds on human blood and flesh.  Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th November saw the cast deliver matinee performances to visiting Primary School children while on the evenings of Thursday 8th and Friday 9th the production was staged for members of the paying public.

The production saw a number of acclaimed performances delivered by lead actors Ross White, Lower 6th, (Seymour), Caitlin Jamison (Audrey), Aaron Godfrey (Orin), Matthew Hedley (Audrey II), Ross White, Upper 6th, (Mr Mushnik), Simon Gibson (Bernstein, Snip), Katie Dougan (Crystal), Hannah Cash (Ronnette) and Jenna McCready (Chiffon).  In addition the show was brought to life by a superb supporting Chorus as well as a talented band of musicians who delivered its popular score skillfully and with enthusiasm throughout.

Following four accomplished, professional and entertaining performances, all in attendance  were left impressed by the level of application and effort which enabled Grosvenor’s cast to produce such an superb series of shows.  In recent years the school has deservedly earned a name for delivering Musical Drama productions of the highest quality, and ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ served only to enhance this reputation.

Congratulations to everybody involved in Grosvenor’s production of ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ who helped to make the show such an overwhelming success.  We look forward to seeing many of its talented actors and musicians in performance again soon.
