Lord-Lieutenant of Belfast Invitational Recognition

Congratulations to Grosvenor pupil Beth Vance, Year Thirteen, who was recently invited to attend an event held by the Lord-Lieutenant of Belfast, Mrs Fionnuala Jay-O’Boyle CBE, and attended by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, staged in order to recognise the achievements of young people within Northern Ireland.

Beth’s invitation to the event, held on the evening of Wednesday 27th February at the Empire Music Hall, came in light of her involvement as a member of the Belfast City Council Youth Forum, as a member of which she has participated in a wide range of youth and campaign-related work. An example of such work is the current mental health campaign ‘Elephant in the Room’, in which the Belfast Youth Forum has been partnered with the Northern Ireland Youth Forum; the research report for which was launched in Stormont last October.

At the event itself Beth, along with her colleagues from the Belfast and Northern Ireland Youth Forums, was given the opportunity to meet and speak with both the Duke and Duchess, with the Duke discussing the finer details of the campaign and congratulating the members of both forums on the work that they had carried out. Beth’s comments that the event was “a life changing experience” and on that she will “never forget”.

Well done to Beth on her invitation to such a prestigious event and we hope to hear more about her highly worthwhile youth and campaign work in the near future.
